Essie Nail Polish
I have never tried Essie until today as I have never really felt the need to. The white lids look a little cheap and I didn't want to stray from formulas I was used to, plus they are not easily accessible in the UK. I have always been very happy with Nails inc, OPI, Barry M and Revlon to name a few. I managed to get hold of some Essie polishes via a swap to kill my curiosity.
The colours I have are perfect for summer, here's what they are called and how I would describe the colours:
- Pretty Edgy - Muted emerald green (Summer Collection)
- Pink Parka - Neon hot pink
- Lapis of Luxury - Milky blue (Resort Collection)
- Haute as Hello - Milky pale coral (Summer Collection)
- Knockout Pout - Milky pink (Summer Collection)
- Splash of Grenadine - Bright milky lilac (Resort Collection)
I applied 'Splash of Grenadine' on to my nails which took two coats, the application was great and I love how bright the colour is which looks much nicer with my skin tone than a pale lilac. It has a gorgeous creamy finish with pink undertones and I honestly can't stop looking at my nails. I would totally recommend this shade, it's definitely a summer must have!
See swatch below..
I applied 'Haute as hello' to my toes, and couldn't believe how streaky the formula was. The 1st coat looked scary, and the 2nd coat didn't do much to cover it up. It took a total of 4 coats to make it look decent. The colour itself is very beautiful and unique. It's a pale coral with undertones of peach and pink. However, after 4 coats I did find that it was much brighter almost giving off a neon vibe. I would only recommend this shade if you are incredibly patient.
Have you tried Essie? if so, what are your favourites?

I've been really impressed with the Essie varnishes I've used so far (still to come up against the 'bad' ones) and I think they may just be overtaking OPI for me right now :)

I find Essie nail polishes really hard to apply, the brush is so thin so it's really hard to avoid streaks. The shades you have here all look so pretty and summery :) x
amazing colors!

Essie is either a hit or miss... and miss more often as of recently... Van D' Go is pretty bad, just like you described Haute as Hello, and even though it's a pretty colour, I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone... Would love to try Haute as Hello too, but avoided it for that reason...
But I have older Essie nail polishes, and the application is pretty smooth, not sure if it has to do with those pastel shades or they 've re-formulated their nail polishes...

My favourite Essie colour (until now!) has always been Lollipop.
A dramatic pillar-box red with slight orange undertones, it looks sensational but applies with difficulty because of having such a watery formulation.
This would be my main criticism of Essie...
Thin brush + Watery Formulation = Streaky Disaster!
