A little pampering...

It's not often this busy mama gets a minute to do some pampering but when I do (like today) here's how the routine usually goes..

I will steam my face with a bowl of hot water and a couple of drops of Neal's Yard essential oils and a towel over my head to open up my pores. Then exfoliate, I usually use a chemical one with lactic acid, then clean out those pores with a clay face mask and finally nourish with some oil.

REN Glycolactic Mask is a renewal peel mask (it's not a peel off mask) it chemically exfoliates the skin with fruit acids which is aims to brighten and renew the skin. I leave it on for about 10 minutes and it smells like citrus fruits and leaves my skin feeling super soft afterwards, I don't experience any redness after however I suspect some people might. I like it best when applied overnight to wake up to gorgeous skin. It contains lots of lactic acid which you can imitate at home with applying lemon directly to your skin which I have done before. But this mask is just special and I would rather apply this!

Boots Botanics Clay Mask is the only clay mask i use, it doesn't leave my skin feeling tight or dry after but leaves it looking "clean' and makes me feel like I have had a real pamper treatment, you haven't had a pamper treatment if you don't have green stuff on your face which stops you from smiling for 10 minutes!

Caudelie Divine Oil is a serious must have. I use this baby on my face and hair. It contains lots of nourishing oils like grape, hibiscus, argan and sesame oils. The best thing about it is that it's a dry oil, it doesn't leave your face or hair greasy afterwards. It also comes in a spray bottle which is easy and hygienic application.

Storage Sunday - Arts and Craft Supplies

Craft supplies and anything fiddly always seem to end up lost or forgotten. Now that I have a budding artistic toddler on my hands I have even more bits and bobs to store. The best method I have found for practical and efficient storage are these plastic hanging pockets.

It has 20 pockets and holds so much stuff and everything is clearly on display and I can find what I am looking for extremely quickly. I store mine on the inside of my craft cupboard door. I purchased this organiser from amazon for £8.99. A total bargain, I am slightly addicted to the amazon app on my phone and get 'click' happy more often than I should. (No I'm not paid by amazon, but I wish I was!)

I store - glue, pipe cleaners, feathers, foam, felt stickers, pens, toys, and everything else I need for easy access.

How do you store your Arty bits?

Balm Cleansing!

It seems I have a new obsession with balm cleansers, and I am currently loving the REN 'Rosa Centifolia' cleansing balm. Why? Because I actually feel like it's clearing up my skin whilst controlling my oily t-zone. I have watched and read 'Caroline Hirons' (skincare expert) bang on about avoiding foam cleansers because I quote: 'To get foam you need to use a surfactant - and a surfactant turns your skin alkaline. Alkaline skin is like a petri dish for bacteria'. Seems crazy right? Particularly when foaming cleansers are specifically targeted for oily skin. I know balm cleansing seems like a hassle as you have to stand there rubbing it in, but trust me it's worth it!

The first balm cleanser I tried was years back and it was the Liz Earle 'Cleanse & polish' which seemed lovely although it was causing some sort of mild rash and I didn't continue using it. I took this REN balm cleanser on holiday with me to Antalya, but avoided using it as I felt like I was wiping my tan away (insert laughing crying emoji here) There's also the misconception that your adding oil to your skin is going to make you more oily. Infact no, clearly your skin doesn't have enough oil and works overtime to produce more oil thus making your skin oily.

I have been using the REN cleansing balm for almost a month now, day and night on dry skin and removing with a damp hot 100% cotton crochet pad or a flannel, my skin is so much smoother, the small white bumps on my cheeks have almost disappeared, they have reduced drastically and I can't wait to see the results after using this method of cleansing long term.

The cleanser is very thick in texture infused with natural oils and rose oil being the scent which is most detectable, there are no parabens, sulphates and fragrances so can be used with an eased mind.

See REN website for more info. Link!

Lesson for the day, ditch those foam cleansers! Thanks caroline.

Storage Sunday - Nail Producs

Happy Sunday all, I have had a lovely busy day and have only finally got around to blogging this evening. Today's post is about where I stash my nail polishes. They are currently stored in a wire basket that I think is meant for eggs :) but my nail polishes look so much better in it!!

It holds a lot but I have reduced my collection drastically due to them being old and the consistency being off or I just don't like the shade anymore. I picked up the basket from good ol' TK Maxx for about £5.

I hold my nail tools in a Mac makeup bag which i also place inside the basket and transport the whole thing around the flat. My stash can be found in the kitchen, in the sitting room, on a shelf or on the table! :)

Nail tools include, metal tools, nail files, base & top coats, nail art, nail polish remover etc. My current wish list as far as tools go is the 'Leighton Denny' crystal nail file and the 'OPI' nail envy, I feel like my nails always break as I haven't really invested in a good quality nail file which really doesn't make sense.

I am currently loving almost black nail shades, some of my favourites are:

Nails Inc 'Dover St market'
Barry M 'Vivid Purple'
Zoya 'Jem'
Revlon 'Facets of Fuchsia'
Orly 'Fowl Play'
Essie 'Little Brown Dress'
Nails Inc 'Victoria'
Orly 'Naughty'
Nails Inc 'Motcomb St'
Nails Inc 'Chesham Place'

How do you store your nail products and what polishes are your current favourites?
